I’ve been performing for over a decade — poetry slams, theater, directing stage shows. So when I stumbled across Spoken Word Alchemy, I figured it would be a solid way to sharpen my writing and freshen up my delivery. I wasn’t expecting it to redefine how I relate to language, performance, and most of all — myself.
This wasn’t just a poetry class.
It was sacred. It was embodied. It was alchemical.
Language as Energy, Not Just Craft
What struck me immediately was the tone of the space — reverent, focused, and deeply intentional. We weren’t just talking about metaphors and enjambment. We were exploring voice as vibration, words as spells, stories as living archetypes.
Every session felt like a cross between a writing lab, a performance circle, and a ritual chamber.
We did vocal activation work that left my chest buzzing. We tuned into the silence between words. We asked questions like:
What if your poem is a portal? What if your voice is a ritual tool?
And the wild thing? These weren’t abstract ideas. The facilitators led us into direct experience — into the body, into the breath, into the raw pulse beneath each line.
Performance Became Prayer
As someone who’s often “on,” it was confronting (and refreshing) to drop the performance persona. Spoken Word Alchemy invites you to speak from the soul, not for applause.
In one session, we were asked to craft a piece using our own shadow material — not to dramatize it, but to transmute it. That piece turned into one of the most honest things I’ve ever performed. And for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t performing to impress. I was offering.
People didn’t just hear it.
They felt it.
The Shift
Since taking the course, my writing has gotten braver. My voice has gotten fuller. And my creative process has gotten more… devotional.
I now approach my work with a kind of sacred discipline. I listen more. I speak slower. And I understand that a poem isn’t just a performance — it’s a spell, a mirror, and sometimes, a kind of medicine.
If You’re a Writer, Performer, or Just Voice-Curious…
You don’t need to be “spiritual” to do this work — just curious. Curious about your voice, your story, and what it means to speak from a place that isn’t polished but powerful.
Spoken Word Alchemy isn’t just about sounding better. It’s about becoming more whole — through sound.
And if you’re like me — thinking this is just another poetry course — get ready. You might be wrong. But in the best possible way.
